The setting really makes this as a destination. The building just below the crag is the Refuge de la Blanche. It was actually still open, although it was into September when we visited. Chapelle de Clauzis is just visible as a small dot right of centre. On the peak directly behind the refuge you can see a white dot, which is an observatory.
There was a bit of activity at the refuge, including the pumping out of the sewage tanks. Le Rouchon, the rocky pinnacle on the skyline, is home to a handful of routes which require some gear to supplement the bolts.
